Helical Cutterhead for Powermatic P180 18" Thickness Planer

The machine work of the cutterhead is beautiful. And as a bonus the replaceable cutters are the same as those for my Rockwell Delta Jointer. All of the parts that were ordered fit perfectly and arrived very quickly. It's such a relief that once this machine is set up properly no mores hours of adjustments, simply replace a damaged cutter and your done! This is some information that I would like to pass along. The cutter head is spiral to allow it to shear the wood as it passes through the machine. If using a dial indicator it's difficult to get an accurate measurement on the cutter because it conforms to the spiral shape of the cutter head, unlike the straight conventional knifes. The best way I have found to parallel the table to the cutter head is located the space between the cutter head bearings and the shaft that extends from the cutter head. Use that space to find the low point of the shafts, and use that to parallel the table. Once that is done, the rest of the adjustment are easy, accurate and won't need any further adjustment. I had to make some modifications to the measuring tools I had available to me, there are probable better option. Very happy with the purchase.
