Better than the original

So far they have lasted twice as long as the original and still going strong. I was a little concerned initially because the hole for the screw is slightly smaller causing to the screw to be slightly proud, but it doesn't seem to affect the cutting.

So far, pretty good.

Got these for my Wen spiral planer. I'm new to (power machine) planing, and this has opened a whole new world for me. The Wen comes with HSS inserts stock which quickly showed wear and tear, starting to burn boards more than flatten them. So I quickly started looking around for carbide, not HSS, inserts and these from FindBuy Tool came up and I decided they were worth a try.

My results so far:
* These carbide inserts indeed appear to last 3-4x longer sharp compared with HSS.
* That said, they do appear to be dulling after some pretty heavy usage. I've noticed my last couple of plane jobs some woods show more of a tearing (raised wood grain) than a cutting or shearing action. The first several runs through I would judge that the planed surface appeared finish-ready smooth. But the last several passes, not so much. But, I'm not getting any burning so I think I'll keep the current cutting edges as is before I rotate them.

Caveats:
* Again, new to planing, don't have vast experience or ability to rigorously conduct scientific tests vs. either HSS or other carbide inserts.
* I'm milling up mostly "found" woods (pallets and such) that probably have a lot of dirt on them. I do my best to clean them up, but the dirt and grit probably wear the cutting surface more than for other users who are buying straight from the big box store or lumber mill. Point being, "YMMV" and for the better than me.
